What is HIPAA?
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) protects the privacy of health information records. A privacy record under HIPAA constitutes a medical record and identifying information which identifies who the medical record pertains to, referred to as Protected Health Information (PHI).

The Monterey County District Attorney's Office has an internal HIPAA Compliance Policy to help ensure that we maintain and adhere to this Act.
